Teenagers per say are a difficult lot to handle. With temper, attitude and a flippancy that is synonymous with teenage, it is essential to gently guide them and make them feel wanted and “at home”. Designing their room can be a herculean task what with their ever changing tastes. Décor is something that cannot be changed as frequently as ones opinion or taste. One thing that is sure to work with them is to create a room that has the “cool” quotient- you’ll never go wrong that way and might even end up acquiring a fan!
Theme for décor
Teenagers have numerous interests. Select a theme of décor that will reflect your teenager’s most loved interest. Discuss with him and find out what his prime interest is and work your way round it. If he is interested in sports or music or cars etc, do up the room based on any one of these.
Most boys love to use dark colors like navy blue or black for their rooms. Colors have a great impact on the mind. So you could choose dark shades of those colors that are inspiring yet fun at the same time. You could choose colors like purple, brown, orange, yellow and red. You could create an accent wall with one of these colors while using a lighter shade for the other walls to balance out the effect. Decorate the accent walls with pictures of his favorite sports or music star or knick knacks from his area of interest.
The bunk beds or the loft beds are always a hot favorite with the teens. So use this to maximize space. The area below the bunk could be used for a study table or a couch could be placed there for a cool chilling area.
