The teen’s personal domain: teenage bedroom

Teenagers are tough cookies and they make it known too. They have to be handled with kid gloves. So designing their room- their personal domain could be an uphill task. But, it can become a breezy fun activity if you get them involved in the entire process. They will love the responsibility and will be extremely proud of the outcome!

Spatiality

Check out the available space and then decide about the type of bed and where to place it. Chances are that your teenager will opt for a bunker bed as it is high on both the utility factor and the cool quotient. Beds with storage options could also be considered. Teens always need some extra space.

The style statement

Give them a funky or bright dresser. Alternately you could paint the existing dresser with some bright colors to get the funky look- get your teen to do it!!! For a laid back look add a bean bag or two placed casually around the room. Add a colorful rug in bright funky designs or stark geometric patterns. Use bright drapes or curtains for the windows. Use different combinations to create an eclectic and inspiring style.

Wow walls

Color the walls with bright colors. Create an accent wall with any of the bright or dark colors. Decorate the wall with pictures of their favorite personalities or their artwork. For an accent wall you use a creative mural. Put the teens on the job and watch the creative juices flow!

Light up

Enliven their room with creative lighting. Use many accent lights to highlight their favorite corners or areas. Task lights or lamps will create the right mood in the working area. A small night light could be used to give the room a soft glow conducive for good sleep.
